Modern Loft - Koo De Kir

Residential

Description

Tasked with creating a modern home from a space that was once a Methodist church, then a synagogue and finally a rooming house for retired merchant marines, Kristine Irving and Koo de Kir had a full plate with two separate condo units drowning in the 1980’s style condo conversion details we know and love, like: shag carpeting, wood paneling and dark wood “builders-special”  kitchen cabinets.  With an eye to open space for a young creative couple, Irving joined two, two-level units seamlessly into one expansive and open 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom private home.  Her favorite feature? Irving worked with the project builders, Pomeroy & Company to retain one of the only remaining details of the home’s past life: the pulpit and balcony.  This gut renovation happened over two years and included all custom interior doors, millwork, furniture and finishes.
